Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance

Striving for Zero Net Emissions by 2020

Welcome to the CVGA!

Achieving zero net emissions and a thriving community

The Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance, comprising 14 local governments, and businesses and community organisations, is playing a key role in creating sustainable, climate-aware communities and profitable, climate-friendly economies in our region.

Our objectives are:

  • To reduce Central Victorian Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 30 per cent below 2000 levels with the goal of achieving zero net emissions by 2020
  • To promote sustainable development and sustainable economic growth throughout the region

Our key activities include:

  • Raising awareness of climate change, its effects and the solutions
  • Initiating, driving and coordinating projects
  • Facilitating networks, partnerships and cooperative ventures
  • Sourcing project funding, information and resources
  • Providing a forum for discussing opportunities and challenges

Our region has:

  • Enormous potential for generating and utilizing renewable energy
  • Committed and innovative communities, organizations and businesses

According to the CSIRO, a combination of wind, bioelectricity, solar and geothermal power, in combination with energy efficiency measures, could supply 100 per cent of central Victoria's energy needs by 2050.

CVGA MEMBERS' MEETINGS AND FORUM

POSTPONEMENT NOTICE

Members Forum 30th August 2010 :

Venue :

Due to the late withdrawal of several speakers, the withdrawal of the facilitator and the recently announced legislative changes regarding local government emissions reporting, myself and the forum steering committee have decided to postpone the forum for at least 6 weeks.

We will restructure and readvertise the meeting in the next few weeks.

CVGA will host a forum for members and invited guests on the current issues surrounding how councils are conceptualizing their emissions, the thinking about reporting boundaries and current council emission reduction strategies.

The format will be a series of informal round table presentations and discussions to explore what’s working and what’s not, what support councils need and how we can seed regional partnership and collaborative approaches to  climate change adaptation.

A program will be distributed in the coming weeks.

Members input is welcome.
